These luxury homes were comprehensively refurbished from a tired and unstable former steading into five high standard homes. The site was situated near Prestonpans, East Lothian.
The conversion consisted of the development of five houses compromising of three to five bedrooms. There was a high amount of demolition to the original steading; that which could remain did. Succeeding the initial excavation and groundworks, four of the five homes were constructed using timber kit construction. This form of construction provided a quick and reliable form of construction while maintaining the continuity of the overall site and the surrounding buildings.
Following completion of construction the best of quality materials were used in the interior of the five homes. Each was finished to highest standard that included solid oak staircases, doors and windows, custom made kitchens with marble work surfaces, solid oak flooring, high specification appliances and luxury bathrooms.
Due to the remote location of the site it was necessary to install an appropriate drainage and sewage system that would facilitate for the five homes. This was achieved by installing a septic tank and laying the necessary pipework during the initial excavation of the site.
Throughout the project there was a high aspect of conservation work as the site was located in a conservation area. This meant that during the design phases of the project there were a number of compliances to adhere to. It was also necessary to ensure the continuity of the building in relation to the surrounding buildings. This was achieved in using the appropriate render and finishes to the outside of the houses.
